Blue World Gallery is a non-profit arts organization based in Philadelphia, PA, that fosters intellectual discourse about contemporary art in a digital age.
Founded by Kaja Silverman, the Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Professor Emeritus of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania, Blue World Gallery serves as a virtual space for reimagining how to look at art together in a digital age. During the COVID pandemic, we experienced an epistemic break marked by spatial isolation and fractured social discourse. The Gallery, acknowledging this rupture, mobilizes virtuality to nurture new forms of collectivity. The Gallery’s title aptly evokes both “The Blue Marble,” the first photograph of Earth taken from outer space, and the “Blue Screen of Death,” the critical error screen displayed by Microsoft Windows. Across our educational programs, Blue World Gallery seeks alternate ways of inhabiting the virtual world together.
